The Manchester Meet…

May 27, 08 by Max

Just thought I’d do a quick post blog about the meet up we had in

Manchester on Friday. It was a nice relaxed event with a mixture of agencies, a few network staff and some affiliates. A good mix I’d say. It was hosted by R.O.Eye who are an excellent agency who run several programs. They are in my eyes the best agency I know in the Industry and got my vote for agency of the year in the a4u awards voting. The affiliates I talked to were of different levels, some had been doing it for a long time, others were new to it and hadn’t tried it before and were simply interesting in finding out more. It was good to listen to other affiliates and share some information/advice and tips as well as have a general chat about it. It’s always good to be able to put a face to the name you’ve been chatting to by email or on msn. Overall the event was definitely worth me going to , if not just for the free drinks ;) and food which looking back I should have taken some of the food back to fellow starving students in my flat who have run there loans down to the ground and are living off rivita and Sainsburys basic cheese :) I will be looking forward to the next event that I come across in the near future and working with people who I met for the first time or continuing and pushing more sales.

A week today… Manchester Meet Up

May 16, 08 by Max

Just to let you all know there’s going to be a Manchester Meet up on the 23rd of May, which is a week today.

Date: Friday 23rd May.
Time: From 1pm
Location: Manchester Rain Bar

It can be found here: M1 5JG - Google Maps

It’s at 80 Great Bridgewater Street, near Deansgate Locks and Manchester Central (formally G-Mex.)

Richard and Michelle from R.O.EYE will be attending. We’ve laid on some food for 2pm and there will be plenty of free beer for anyone who is interested!

It’s available from 1pm onwards and we suspect the majority of those attending will come for the afternoon. Can you please reply or PM me if you will be arriving after 6pm so we can get ideas on how long the area needs to be available from?

Who’s up for it? Affiliates, merchants, agencies and networks are all welcome. The more the merrier. ”

I’ll be making an appearance earlier on about 1pm. Will be good to have a few beers and chat. So if your able to get there then make sure you do. When you’re there don’t forget to come say hey to me :)

Ups and Downs of Google on my revenue

May 13, 08 by Max

Google really has a massive grip on us affiliates. If google decided not to like my site it could cut my revenue massively. And recently it has been having an affect on me. One of my established sites which has been No.1 in google for a term for 3 months plus has been moving around from 1st to 3rd. I’ve put a little table showing the difference in Revenue a position or 2 does to me.

As I know people like seeing real figures and not just talk so I’ve used the real figures that i’ve recieved.

Position #1   £72.30  ,  £74.60 , £93.50, £57.70  , £81.42

Position #2  £63.45 , £59.40  , £49.96 , £60.30 , £55.70

Position #3  £37.50   , £31.63  , £41.65 , £44.45  , £39.98

Now these are just different days, not in any order but just from the position that google had me in, shows that it can vary from the max over last 2 weeks or so was £93.50 and the lowest was £31.63 a difference of £60 odd which if you add up over a month is £1800 which is a big difference !

Obviously this doesnt take into account general different day stats, such as week days when its lower than weekends etc, but it still shows quite a difference.

Google rules me and its scary.

Unsuccessful PPC … it doesn’t always work

May 12, 08 by Max

I’ve had  many a successful ppc campaign over the 2 years i’ve been in affiliate marketing, but it’s not always the case. Often i’ve ran ppc campaigns and they haven’t been profitable. It’s not as easy as adding some keywords, making an advert and seeing the cpc turning a profit !

Recently i’ve been doing some direct PPC to some merchants to find that the CPC and conversion rate isn’t worthy of me carrying on. Direct PPC can be great but it doesn’t always work like you want it too. One of the reasons my PPC campaign didnt become profitable was as I was competiting directly with other merchants and not other affiliates thus they would make a bigger mark up on a sale than I would. So they could afford to push the price of each click up more.

When is the stop off period ? how long should I let it go before I pull the ad ? People have various ideas on this, but I generally wait till either 200 clicks have been done, 2 days of the ad, or if a limit of around £100 has been reached before I look into an ad and see if I should pull it.

The point is, if a campaign you run isn’t successful at first then maybe it won’t be overall.
